How to care for your Brownie (a guide to living together)

Congrats! You've already adopted a Magikito. Now comes the important bit: making sure your new partner in mischief stays happy, looking great, and ready to keep stealing your socks for a very long time.

Relax, caring for a Magikito is super easy. It's not like looking after a little sheep, those really do keep you busy. They don't need walks, food, or a litter tray. But there are a few little things you should know so they stay in tip-top shape.

Rule number one: Treat your Brownie with love

Magikitos are tougher than they look. They're handcrafted from cold porcelain, and that's pretty sturdy stuff. Even so, they still love a gentle touch. They're not glass, but they're not footballs either. So no throwing, no big falls, and definitely no kung-fu battles with other Magikitos.

Pro tip: If you've got little ones at home, let them know Magikitos are special friends who prefer soft cuddles to wrestling matches.

No water, seriously, none at all

Magikitos and water are not friends. No showers, no baths, no walks in the rain. Cold porcelain and water really don't get along. If your Magikito gets too wet, they can lose some of their magic, and part of their shape too.

If a bit of dust settles on them, and it will, that's totally normal. Just wipe it gently with a dry cloth or a soft brush. Done.

What to do if they get wet by accident: If a few drops land on them, it's fine. Dry them straight away, gently, and that's that. Just don't dunk them in water or leave them out in the rain.

Watch out for direct sunlight

Magikitos love natural light, but too much direct sun can fade their colours over time. We're the same at the beach without sunscreen, sooner or later we go pink. In their case, a bit washed out.

Best spot: A shelf near a window, your desk, the bedside table... anywhere they can see you and keep you company without sitting in direct sun all day.

A safe, steady place

Magikitos are adventurous, but they're happiest staying put in their own little spot. Pick a stable place where they won't get knocked over by accident. Best avoid:

  • The edge of a table where someone might bump into them
  • Busy spots, like on top of the microwave or by a door that gets slammed shut
  • Places where a pet might mistake them for a toy, cats are wildly curious

Ideal spots: Shelves, desks, display cabinets, bedside tables, little ledges... any corner where they can keep you company without the risk of a fall.

Dust, the only real enemy

Over time, like everything else at home, they can collect a little dust. No big deal. That's completely normal.

How to clean them:

  • Use a dry, soft cloth, microfibre is perfect
  • Or a soft brush if they have tiny corners where dust likes to gather
  • Be gentle and don't rub too hard
  • And that's it, good as new

What if you have a Fairy or an Animagikito too?

If you've also got a Fairy crafted from wool or an Animagikito in carded wool at home, the care is a bit different. The material speaks its own language. We've put together two dedicated guides so you're not left guessing:

What if something happens?

Life happens. Things fall, get bumped, or run into a little mishap. If your Magikito gets damaged:

  1. Don't panic. Most little mishaps can be fixed.
  2. Get in touch with me. Send me an email telling me what happened and add a photo. We'll look at it together and see what can be done.
  3. Don't try to glue it back together with whatever glue you have lying around. Some glues can damage cold porcelain. If it needs repairing, it's better to leave that bit to me.

In short: the quick guide

✅ YES:

  • Treat them with love
  • Put them somewhere safe and steady
  • Clean them with a dry cloth from time to time
  • Enjoy their company and their little bits of mischief. And if you'd like more magical company, pop by the shop

❌ NO:

  • Get them wet or dunk them in water
  • Leave them in direct sun all day
  • Put them somewhere they can fall easily
  • Use them as a tennis ball

And above all...

Remember, your Magikito is there to keep you company, make you smile when you glance at your desk, and remind you that magic is real. Enjoy them, care for them, and let them bring that little touch of everyday joy.
