This Christmas brownie strolls through the forest the way others stroll through their living room: in yellow shoes, totally at ease, and with a hat full of little vine bits snagged on it. He’s absolutely obsessed with climbing damp trunks, sliding down sparkling moss, and listening to the mud crunch under his cool porcelain feet. He swears the treetops whisper gossip from other dimensions.
When nobody’s looking, he slips into the highest branches and stays very still, watching light thread through the leaves, playing at guessing stories in the damp stains on the bark. He always wears a round stone at his neck (smooth and worn)which, according to him, remembers every path he’s ever taken.

- He insists fireflies are lanterns carried by traveling snails.
Sometimes he comes back from the woods with his hat full of dry leaves and the scent of wet earth, settles into any corner that creaks just a little, and stays there (quiet)like he’s waiting for the next aimless wander between branches and secrets.
