What it means
Means to ditch something or give up on it because you can’t be arsed anymore. You can sack off plans, chores, a shift, even an entire night out. It’s casual, a bit blunt, and usually comes with that relieved shrug when you choose the sofa, the pub, or literally anything better. Not polite, but very honest.
Usage examples
"Was gonna hit the gym after work, then Dave pinged about the pub. Sacked it off, grabbed a kebab, now I’m yelling at the telly."
"It's pouring down, shall we just sack off the walk and stay in?"
Where it comes from
Built on "sack" in the sense of dismissing or binning something, the same sack as getting the sack from a job. To sack it off is to ditch a plan or task you can no longer be bothered with and simply walk away from it.
