What it means

An insult for someone who’s acting posh, fussy, or showing off, like life’s beneath them. It also means a scrounger who’s forever poncing fags, drinks, or lifts and never paying their way. You’ll hear poncing about for messing around uselessly. Bit old-school, and it can carry a nasty, sometimes homophobic edge, so use with care. Often said on a building site or down the pub when someone’s being precious.

Usage examples

"He rocked up in loafers, moaned about the bus, then tried to ponce a tenner off me. Pack it in, you ponce."
"He's a bit of a ponce about coffee, won't touch anything that isn't poured at exactly the right angle."
"Stop poncing about with the menu and just order the thing you always get."

Voices of the people

Theory is all well and good... but what we Magikitos really love is hearing humans in their natural flow. That's why we collect voice notes that people send us on WhatsApp, recording themselves using the expression with a real, street-level example!
