"Lit. When something or someone is out of this world or top tier, it is a synonym of another similar slang word, fire. Example, yo, that party was lit. They really had it going until 2am and the music was awesome."

What it means

Means something is amazing, exciting, or going off in the best way. People use it for parties, outfits, songs, games, whole moods, whatever feels top tier and full of energy. It sits close to fire, but lit has its own glow, more about the buzz of the moment than just saying something is plain cool.

Usage examples

"That block party was lit, the DJ kept switching eras, everybody stayed outside, and even the quiet bull from upstairs started dancing."
"The rooftop party was lit, the playlist never dipped, and we danced until the sun came up over the rooftops."

Where it comes from

Once meant literally set alight, then jazz and hip-hop used lit for tipsy, glowing, switched on. The spark stuck, so today a lit night is one blazing with energy.

Voices of the people

Theory is all well and good... but what we Magikitos really love is hearing humans in their natural flow. That's why we collect voice notes that people send us on WhatsApp, recording themselves using the expression with a real, street-level example!
