Street voices
"Lock-in, it basically means, like, focus on something, like, be, like, seriously focused on it. It could be, you know, for exams or for anything, literally, mainly used for, like, studying and exams. But it could be maybe, like, for an event or for, like, the gym as well, you know, to lock-in to get, like, a better body or something. An example would be, oh my god, summer's in literally three months, I need to lock-in if I want to go out to the beach and stuff."
What it means
To be locked in is to be totally focused and dialled in on a goal, blocking out every distraction and grinding with laser concentration until it is done. Headphones on, notifications off, world muted.
Usage examples
"Two weeks before finals he was completely locked in."
"No calls today, I am locked in until this is finished."
Where it comes from
From locked in, fixed firmly in place and unable to drift. Applied to the mind, it means your focus is bolted to the task with no room to wander off.
