What it means
Means a proper, full-on kiss, the sort with hands everywhere and zero shame, not a quick peck on the cheek. Used for anyone properly making out, from awkward teens at a school disco to grown-ups outside the chippy acting like they’ve booked the whole pavement. Common as chips, and a bit funnier than just saying kiss.
Usage examples
"Walked past the bus stop and they were snogging like it was the Love Island final. Dave goes, Oi save some oxygen for the rest of us, yeah?"
"Caught my flatmate having a proper snog with someone in the hallway when I came down for a glass of water."
"The film was two hours of explosions and one awkward snog right at the very end."
Where it comes from
British slang that surfaced around the nineteen forties, its origin not fully pinned down, possibly a playful cousin of snuggle or a bit of school-yard coinage. Whatever its roots, it has meant a long, enthusiastic kiss ever since, far cheekier than the plain word peck.
