Street voices
"Cornball. Someone who's just always saying something corny. Whether it's super cliche, overly emotional, or just trying way too hard to be cool. Listen team, if we pull through and work as a team, I believe we can win this. Dude, this is a class presentation. Stop being such a cornball."
What it means
Used for someone who comes off corny, cheesy, or painfully try hard, especially when they act way too dramatic, wholesome, or eager to seem cool. It is usually playful mockery, not full hatred. Call someone a cornball when their vibe feels forced, like they are performing sincerity or swagger with the volume turned up past common sense.
Usage examples
"Bro gave a five minute speech before our trivia round like we were storming Normandy, and everybody just stared at him like, cornball."
"He ended the toast with a wink and finger guns at the whole table, and his sister just muttered what a cornball under her breath."
Where it comes from
Built from corny plus ball, American slang where corn long stood for cheap, rustic and unsophisticated. The bouncy ending turned it into the name for someone laying the cheese on far too thick.
