What it means
Short for opposition, your opp is a rival or enemy, someone on the other side. It came up through drill and rap to mean a genuine adversary, but spilled into everyday banter for anyone you are playfully against, from a work rival to your mate supporting the other team.

"My little brother supports the rival club so he is officially an opp now."
"Nah, don't invite Jake, he's moving proper opp since that argument."
"She backed the other side in the group chat, now everyone's calling her an opp."
Where it comes from
Opp is a clipped form of opposition or opponent. It grew through Black slang in the US and got pushed hard into wider street talk by drill and rap, where opps meant rival people or rival crews. From there it spread into everyday chat for anyone you’re against, seriously or just for jokes.
