Street voices
"Hits different means, you know, something feels special, it's unique, it just feels really nice in that particular moment. Maybe it could be something that you do all the time, but in that moment, it hits different. It feels special, it feels good. An example would be that man late night drives and listening to Circuits After Sex really hits different."
What it means
When something hits different it lands with a force or a flavour you cannot quite put into words, better and deeper than the usual version. A song at three in the morning or a hug after a hard day just hits different.
Usage examples
"Cold water after a long run just hits different."
"That old song hits different now that I know what it is about."
Where it comes from
From hit, the way a feeling or a beat strikes you, plus different: it does not land like everything else, it strikes in its own special and stronger way.
