Short for be fucking for real, this is what you throw out when someone is being ridiculous, unserious, or painfully out of pocket. It can mean be serious, no way, or are you actually hearing yourself right now, depending on the tone. Pure internet shorthand, but loads of people say the letters out loud now too.

"I know you did not text your ex after stalking his story for two hours, bffr, put the phone down and drink some water."
Where it comes from
It's an online abbreviation of be fucking for real, built the same way loads of texting slang gets compressed into quick little letter bundles. It took off across social media, group chats, and meme culture, then jumped from typed reaction into something people also say out loud when disbelief levels hit the ceiling.
