What it means
Proper old-school compliment for someone who's kind, dependable, and just gets on with it. A good egg is the mate who turns up when everything's gone pear-shaped, sorts you out, and doesn't expect a parade for it. Sounds a bit wholesome, like something your nan would say, but it's still a top-tier bit of praise when someone's been solid.
