What it means
A useless fella, someone who adds zero value to the room. Could be the bloke who flakes on every plan, the ex who still texts at 3am, or that lad who turns up empty-handed to every pre-drinks. Big in London grime culture and used daily by anyone under thirty. Harsh but fair, and absolutely cutting when delivered with the right eye-roll.
Usage examples
"Darren promised he'd help me move flat today, didn't even reply to my texts bruv, proper wasteman behaviour innit, not inviting him to the housewarming"
"Bro turned up to the housewarming with one warm beer and ate half the buffet before saying hello, full wasteman energy, my mate Tania nearly clocked him."
"She wasted three years on that wasteman who promised her the world and ghosted her the week she got into uni, now she is moving to Manchester and never looking back."
Where it comes from
Sits right inside London grime culture, where the scene emerged in the early 2000s and the vocabulary spread fast through Channel U, pirate radio and South London tower blocks. Wasteman became the verbal flick of the wrist for anyone deemed useless, and the word now bounces from playgrounds to barber shops across the UK.
